I spoke with Greg on the phone and via email many many months ago, but I just could not commit to the Ray Special. Just different than what I have used in the past. I was also unsure about the sizing as well. Long story short, this was the exact paddle I wanted but never committed to. Better to have a foolish moment than to be a fool! I just received it Friday, applied a couple coats of oil, and took it out Monday. I am 6ft paddling a solo Wenonah Wilderness. I edge my boat and sit in a kneeling position most of the time. I enjoy the Indian Stroke and really try to keep my blade in the water 90% of the time I am paddling. This paddle does that with perfection. Feathers through the water with silence and no effort at all. Has a fantastic catch and no flutter on the draw. I took this to Ichetucknee springs to put it through its paces. This is my favorite spot to try a new paddle and it did not disappoint. Paddled up stream 3.5 miles and then another 3.5 back down. I will be buying a second paddle before the year is done. Probably a modified ray or modified ottertail to compliment this paddle for shallow water situations.

The paddle craftsmanship was spot on as well. Nearly perfectly balanced at the throat. Ergonomic handle and the shaft size was not too bulky. Great weight and finish. Thanks again!

I am thrilled at the made-to-order, handmade quality of this piece, and impressed by Greg's thoughtful service and packaging. It's just beautiful and the design is exactly what I need for long paddles on mountain lakes. Not only will it get a lot of use, it is already an heirloom that I will treasure.

I finally got to use my paddle that I ordered last summer this past weekend. My son, who received his own Fishell Paddle as a graduation gift in 21 was able to use his last summer and I decided I needed one to after using his for a bit in the BWCA. We just got back from a quick four day trip into Skipper, Rush, Banadad lake and wow it did not disappoint. The effectiveness of the paddle in the water is second to none as far as control and ability to paddle hard. On top of that it is an incredibly beautiful piece of art. I look forward to many more trips and appreciate the way Greg was communicative during the process of ordering and beyond. Fun little note- as we were chatting with another group along our journey someone said, "love your paddles, Greg is a great guy and makes super paddles".
