Ray Special
The Ray Special is our number one seller. It is more than just a beautiful paddle. It combines a well-proportioned blade with an appealing ratio between the blade and shaft lengths. Ray Specials pair a shaft and blade of equal length. This results in a paddle with a longer than normal blade that is mechanically superior to other paddles. The Ray Special is a great paddle for canoe tripping, lake paddling as well as paddling solo. The long blade provides a solo canoeist with greater reach and responsiveness. Although not for whitewater the Special is great for all other paddling needs.
All paddles take up to 3 weeks to craft and 4-6 days in shipping.
After seeing a few of these and admiring them from a distance I finally pulled the trigger. Biggest mistake was waiting so long to buy one. Overall craftsmanship is amazing. Considered not even using it and putting it on the wall as decoration because it’s so damn nice. In the water it changes everything. Went the 66” maple route. The amount of nearly effortless control this gives with very noticeable increase in speed and power almost defies logic. I still don’t get it I just know it works. I can paddle from morning until we lose sunlight and my shoulders would never know. Greg is more accessible than anyone I have ever purchased products from. Not just paddles. Any questions you have will be answered. If you are not sure what design is for you he will tell you after hearing what you typically paddle in or what you want out of your paddle. Im mostly on deeper lakes in northern WI and could not be happier with the Ray’s Special. I also have a Fishell Modified Ottertail for my bow paddler and a cherry Ottertail for shallower lakes and rivers on order at Greg’s suggestion. Can’t wait.
The paddle is a work of art and a great at what it was designed to do. Fun to paddle my canoe. Can’t wait to hit the water again and again. Highly recommend.
I purchased a ray special after discussing with Greg my need for more control in the wind. After great communication, I received my paddle. The paddle itself has great craftsmanship. It slices through the water with ease, yet it has enough pull to maintain speed. This paddle is ideal for deeper waters. The design allows you to easily use your J or Canadian stroke all day long. It is simply a joy to paddle and a pleasure to own. Plus, your friends will be jealous.
My paddle is like a Ferrari. Absolutely great! The power and maneuverability is insane. The slight flex is perfection. Traveling is half the effort now and if I really dig I’d guess I can get another 1.5mph out of my 164 Penobscot. Thank you so much. Perfect
